As far as I know, the standing NT record is still the 1998 Rockett buck (228 4/8 --gun) taken in the Piedmont, not on the coastal plain, and not the 212 7/8 mentioned in the article.
And if anyone thinks even the best soil and agriculture that eastern NC has to offer coughs up bigger-than-average NT racks versus the rest of the state, they should share whatever they're smoking.
It's much easier to believe that Avery county in poor ol' western NC grew this buck than it is to swallow that eastern NC is our big-buck zone, as this article allleges.
There are not many great bucks or even many deer in most of WNC, but when you come across a good one, a lot of times he's a whopper.
Veteran outdoor writer Bob McNally should know better... or hire a different researcher.
