Decided to try and process my own hides. My brother ties flies so I thought I could give him a lifetime supply of deer hair. Didn't know what to do so I started digging around on the web and found you need a fleshing beam and a fleshing knife. I didn't have either so I ordered a knife and read where you can use a mower blade if you had to. Time was ticking and couldn't let the hide sit for very long so I gave it a try using the mower blade and a 2x6 piece of wood. It worked but it was messy, frustrating and inefficient.
I saw where you could make a fleshing beam out of pvc and some scrap wood. Received my knife and tried out both the new knife and pvc beam on the same hide. It cleaned it up nicely and was easy to use. PVC is a great material because you want a smooth surface.
The fleshing beam breaks apart for easy storage. Pretty slick.
Hope to try and do some more post processing in the future.
