When I first saw CE's post, before I read it, I thought "Looks like Jake from State Farm might be replacing some of CE's treestands."

Get his girlfriend's digits ... She'll be needing a man around the house for the next few years. It could be sweet revenge ... Or not ... LOL One of these days I'm going to get around to reporting some things I had stolen around 2008 or 9 ... I had a lot going on and just couldn't get to it/deal with it, even though some of the stuff was important to me. It's a long story and I bet I know who did it ... I also had that weird feeling when I first walked inside, and about somebody being in my domain ... It lasted for a good while.

I read an excerpt of something a long time ago ... I can't swear it was by him. I don't imagine he had a lot of time to write post-1939 ... An interesting guy.

Okay, I give up ... But how 'bout today? : (6/21) 1667 The Peace of Breda ends the Second Anglo-Dutch War as the Dutch cede New Amsterdam to the English. 1791 The French royal family is arrested in Varennes. 1862 Union and Confederate forces skirmish at the Chickahominy Creek. 1863 In the second day of fighting, Confederate troops fail to dislodge a Union force at the Battle of LaFourche Crossing. 1887 Britain celebrates the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria. 1900 General Douglas MacArthur offers amnesty to Filipinos rebelling against American rule. 1908 Mulai Hafid again proclaims himself the true sultan of Morocco. 1911 Porforio Diaz, the ex-president of Mexico, exiles himself to Paris. 1915 Germany uses poison gas for the first time in warfare in the Argonne Forest. 1919 Germans scuttle their own fleet at Scapa Flow, Scotland. 1939 Baseball legend Lou Gehrig is forced to quit baseball because of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis--a disease which wastes muscles. 1942 German General Erwin Rommel captures the port city of Tobruk in North Africa. 1945 Japanese forces on Okinawa surrender to American troops. 1948 Dr. Peter Goldmark demonstrates his "long-playing" record. 1958 A federal judge allows Little Rock, Arkansas to delay school integration. 1963 France announces it will withdraw from the NATO fleet in the North Atlantic. 1964 Three civil rights workers disappear in Meridian, Mississippi. 1982 John Hinckley Jr. is found not guilty by reason of insanity for attempting to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. 1995 The U.S. Senate votes against the nomination of Dr. Henry W. Foster for Surgeon General. It all makes sense when you put it in perspective ... :wink

In my opinion, the whole idea of light, mobile tree-hunting is ruined by dependence on climbing sticks ... until they start making them of graphite or unobtainium ... Use some freaking climbing spikes like back in the day---Gosh!--- or prep trees ahead of time to accept a peg of some type... Alternatively, hunters could set their alarms for 1:30 or 2 in the morning for a local jaunt ...

LOL ... I was thinking of Mike just the other day ... Was wondering if the reason we haven't heard from him is he drove a forklift into a water sprinkler system one too many times ... I have no idea what excuse to give Alex ... But anyhoo ... Set your flipable pegs on the way down, dummy.

I'd have to kill myself in some type of meaningful shame ritual if I thought I was "mobile" humping 22+ pounds in search of a good tree around here. Which is why we're all keeping an eye on saddles. The prep would be to eliminate the weight of the sticks and optimize shooting opportunities as you guesstimate the trees you might use and pre-drill and trim them ahead of time. Climb a tree around here blind and 90% of the time you have a shooting lane problem.

The blurb for the current sticks advertises them as heavy compared to what I know/can remember of the competition. However, you are right about steps on one level on each side of the stick. I bought a single "mini" Muddy stick for exactly that reason, though my other sticks are staggered because I like them staggered (and adjustable) until someone can convince me that there is a dual-step stick as light as a staggered stick. If I need to hang a stand and want to stand on two pegs at one level, I carry that Muddy stick to use at the top.

So what you're saying is you have three Chippewas ... Big deal... :p ... I have 20 Remingtons ... LOL But seriously ... The amount of work it takes to prep a tree for a saddle is not insignificant, Plus the learning curve. I lean toward pre-hanging a stand without a seat (carry that in with you) or folding the stand against the tree and locking it upright with a cable. If you want to be less secretive, be my guest. Pre-drilling, lag bolts and various other magic tricks are your friends ... We should have a contest for the oldest geezer on here working the hardest to get up a tree ...
