I don't remember any other bucks from around here having a dark patch like that. It could just be coincidence that the antlers are dark in the middle too. Heck, the taxidermist might have added a little color there, you know, for a more dramatic effect :-)

Thank you my friend! No pics in velvet. In fact, no pics at all the year that I got him. He came out of nowhere. I did find some pics from 2015 that look suspiciously like him but those were later in the year also.

It just occurred to me that the night I got him, I mentioned a large evergreen tree was rubbed up. This tree is around 6" wide and it was rubbed higher than average off of the ground. I bet that was one of his regular trees. There only a handful of those around but maybe he preferred them for some reason. What other kinds of trees are sappy?

.....and no, that's not where the mount will be hung. My Dad picked him up and hung it right by the front door so it would be the first thing I saw when I walked in.:-) It occurred to me that the brown patch of hair might just be stained. Notice how the middle of the antlers are stained dark chocolate. I wonder if whatever he was rubbing on stained his hair too. What do you think?

I missed this thread the first time. I ran the numbers through the Ontarget software assuming 60# 28" draw 27" gold tip hunter xt (I picked those randomly) with a 100gn tip. It shows you a little weak with the 400 and a little stiff with the 340. I don't think the 400 is in the dangerous range so if that's what you've got, use them. If you have trouble tuning, you might try some 340s. Disclaimer: It's my first time using a new version of the software so a mistake isn't totally out of the question.

As far as being cold all of the time, I totally understand. Just this year, it became really noticeable. Whatever the temp was, I would dress in the same layers that I have for a long time and, invariably, I would end up being cold. I even notice it just walking around the house or running out to the garage. Stuff that never bothered me before. I hate to admit it but I think it's a getting older thing......
