Maybe I'm just a cheap old bastard, but I still can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a single über cooler when I can get 3 Colemans/Igloos of the same size for the price. Yes, I'm sure there are some applications (mostly work-related) where the extra durability of a more well-constructed hunk of plastic makes sense in the long run. But after 15 years I'm only on my 2nd 150 qt Coleman "Xtreme" model, and except for the first one wearing out after a decade...mostly due to being left exposed to the sun too much...the only things I've had fail on them are the plastic hinges, and one drain plug that cracked on me. Both were quickly and easily replaceable with cheap parts, with the hinge replacements on my current cooler being galvanized steel that will likely outlive me. So the short answer is that I'm not much help on this one, and am just here to boost my post count.

Speaking of beef jerky... It's an old expression. It's a tired expression. But it's true. Everything really is bigger in Texas. I'm thinking that we have the only road-side convenience stores you can see just by looking out a window on the International Space Station. I give you the modern wonder of the world that is a Buc-ee's: I bring this up because they just opened one not too far from my little 'burb, and there's much local excitement about it. Did I say something about beef jerky (and hard sausages)? We drove through towns in Ireland that were smaller. Oh, and there are 34 of these things in the state so far, with more on the way.

Breaking: New study shockingly reveals that people still like to eat stuff that's delicious, in spite of incessant fear-mongering. Americans are still eating a lot of processed meats, study finds We need a "Come and take them" flag with a picture of bacon and sausages.

Funny you should mention that. It came with one that spans the 2 burners on the left. It's the part my wife was most eager to try out, and I suspect I'm going to be eating pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches for the next 2 weeks. It also came with an attachment that holds a wok over the center burner...so now I need a wok....and a place to store it.

Henceforth, all of my cooking will be done using these engines from the booster stage of a Saturn V rocket (just installed in my kitchen about an hour ago). The center burner puts out 22,000 BTUs, so I can boil water right-damned-now.

Yeah, Cruise is shorter and a lot older, but he keeps in shape doing his own stunts and stuff. Bieber is a 5'9" bean pole who weighs something like 145 lbs soaking wet. Plus, Cruise is just bat-shit crazy. I'm betting the Biebs would get his clock cleaned.

Some of our stuff is cloud-based, our servers are all backed up to off-site storage and we're hoping that they'll let one or two of us in for long enough to retrieve some of our individual workstations so we can take them home and get some work done from there. So with a little luck we should be able to get something done while things are being cleaned up and repaired. But, yeah...that much is liable to take quite a while. Even after they get all the glass cleaned up, water dried up and power restored I suspect it'll be some time until they get the windows replaced, and there's no way the place will be cool enough to work in until after that happens. I'm just glad this happened on a Sunday instead of the middle of a work day. The winds came up pretty quickly and without much warning (typical TX weather), and I'm sure that a lot of people would have been seriously injured (or worse) when all that glass came flying in with us all sitting at our desks.

Update: Photo updated to add a red circle showing which office is mine. This is the office building where I work, following yesterday's wind rampage through Dallas. My company occupies the 2nd floor from the top, mostly under the "BancorpSouth" sign, and my personal office is the one just to the right of the "h" in "South". What look like two white vertical beams are the walls. The windows are (or rather, were) floor-to-ceiling, so you can imagine how much shattered glass must be all over inside these offices. We can't get into the building yet, so we have no idea how much damage has been done. It was also raining like hell when this happened, so there's likely significant water damage as well. Fortunately our servers are all in a room in the interior of the building, so at least they're intact...assuming the driving rain didn't flood the floor above ours and then leak down into the server room. Needless to say there's going to be some productivity loss for this week.
