I love it when a company doesn't mince words. It makes it so much easier to get useful Google results when using honest search terms. Alien Gear Holsters: Concealed carry for fat guys

Assuming no malfunctions, the only issue I'm anticipating is it being somewhat less than fun to put the +P Golden Sabers I use for carry through it, as I expect the recoil from them to feel pretty snappy due to the pistol's light weight and shorter+thinner grip. I could post another photo that would make them look even smaller by comparison...but this is still a semi-family-friendly site.

The old boy can shoot, too. In the same review video he was also ringing a 4" plate from what appeared to be about 30 yds or so. He was only able to hit it once about every 6 rounds on average, but that ain't bad shooting off-hand with a compact pistol. It would probably take me a whole box of ammo to hit it once at that range.

I just picked the LC9S up on my way home from work yesterday and haven't had a chance to put any rounds through it yet, so useful answers to most of these questions will have to wait until I've made it to the ramge...hopefully this weekend. However, I did some dry firing last night and can say that while it will never be a competition gun, the trigger does appear to be significantly improved when compared with both the LCP and the hammer-fired LC9, based on the complaints about those two that I've read and watched on YouTube. The reset is longer than it should be, but it breaks earlier than the older models, which was their major deficiency. The pull weight feels like it's just shy of 5 lbs, is pretty smooth for a brand new trigger and the break is fairly crisp. I watched Hickock45 do a video review and he was easily and consistently putting rounds into 4" steel targets at 10 and 20 yds, so I'm expecting it to deliver more than acceptable accuracy for a close-range personal defense weapon once I get used to it. But we'll see. As for my M&P, I have one of the older models from before they made improvements to the trigger. Even then it was a good enough shooter for me to get a perfect score on my CHL range test. But it was a bit heavy, with slightly excessive over-travel and reset length, so I dropped in a hard seer from Apex and that addressed all 3 issues. It's been a damned fine shooter ever since.

I just weighed the M&P9 and the LC9S, both with fully loaded mags. The M&P9 weighed in at a hefty 34.5 oz, while the LC9S was a much lighter 20.25 oz. That's a reduction of just over 41%, or just under 2 oz shy of a full lb. That's going to make a big difference in carryability, I think.

Brand new Ruger LC9S... For quite some time now I've been wanting something significantly lighter and more compact than my full-sized M&P9 for concealed carry, but for various reasons had just never made that move. Then I got wind of this deal at Palmetto State Armory and just couldn't resist: RUGER LC9S 9MM PISTOL, PSA AR-15 SAFE/FIRE LOWER RECEIVER, & PSA GEN2 PA10 .308 LOWER RECEIVER for $299.99 I have no use for either of the lowers, so those will be sold to make the final cost of the LC9S even lower than the $259.99 it's currently on sale for separately. Here it is next to my M&P9 for size comparison:

Oh, yeah...that one is always cringe-inducing. It also keeps me humble when I see guys who are in better condition than me dropping from heat exhaustion. Especially when it's being pummeled by a cruise missile barrage. Quite right.

One of the other things that I've come to enjoy about watching FiF is that, now that I've watched for quite a while I've learned just enough to be able to spot when a contestant is making...or is about to make...one of the common mistakes (like quenching in water, time management errors, etc). It adds to the immersive quality, and provides you with little "Oh no!" bits of tension...along with giving you an even greater appreciation for their skill when they manage to recover from something like that.

No, I didn't bother watching it....because the previews gave me exactly the same impression that you just described from the actual show. One of the things that I like most about Forged in Fire is that they do a pretty good job of keeping that sort of goofy crap to a tolerable minimum. And even then, some of the goofiness is actually looked forward to (ie, "Eet weell keel").

It's not difficult here, what with the Pecan being native to and so common in TX that it's the official state tree. They're all over the ground in the woods around here, if you can beat the squirrels, deer and hogs to them. If not, there are numerous businesses selling bulk pecans. Crack them open, make some pie and then use the husks for smoking. It's culinary one-stop shopping!

I'd agree for a brisket rub. But I'm not as enamored of a pronounced pepper flavor on pork. Still, I suppose it could stand another tsp or 2.

You're right. I'm scum. As penance I shall post the recipe I used for the rub. I was pretty pleased with the sweet/mild heat balance it delivered. For each 5 lbs of meat: 1/4 cup paprika 1/4 cup dark brown sugar 3 Tbsp kosher salt 1 tsp ground black pepper 2 Tbsp garlic powder 1 Tbsp dried oregano 2 tsp chili powder

How about the end result? A 9 lb (originally) pork shoulder reduced to just under 6 lbs of finished pulled pork.

Well, after 24 hrs in the fridge the potato salad was a little better, but still not as good as I was expecting. There's a little heat from the crab boil, but other than that it's a bit bland, honestly It needs some more herbs and/or spices of some sort. Some dill would help but I'm not sure what else.

Well, after 8 months I finally got around to trying out that Cajun potato salad from back on page 1. I had to ad lib a tiny bit due to a couple of errors in the instructions (it never tells you to add the relish, and it never calls for any salt...and there's not nearly enough salt in the Tony Chachere's seasoning). Tasting it while it was still warm was underwhelming. It's decent, but I was expecting a little more flavor. We won't be eating it until tomorrow when the kids come over for my wife's birthday and some pulled pork shoulder that's going into the smoker first thing in the AM. Hopefully a night of chilling in the fridge will improve the 'tater salad's flavor a little. I'll post an after action report.
