Sorry to hear this Crookedeye, I know how you feel, it happened to me years ago, it ended up being a kid that lived up the street from me, later on one of his friends told me who did it and I did get some satisfaction out of it if you know what I mean!!!!

Speaking of beef jerky... It's an old expression. It's a tired expression. But it's true. Everything really is bigger in Texas. I'm thinking that we have the only road-side convenience stores you can see just by looking out a window on the International Space Station. I give you the modern wonder of the world that is a Buc-ee's: I bring this up because they just opened one not too far from my little 'burb, and there's much local excitement about it. Did I say something about beef jerky (and hard sausages)? We drove through towns in Ireland that were smaller. Oh, and there are 34 of these things in the state so far, with more on the way.

Breaking: New study shockingly reveals that people still like to eat stuff that's delicious, in spite of incessant fear-mongering. Americans are still eating a lot of processed meats, study finds We need a "Come and take them" flag with a picture of bacon and sausages.

I read an excerpt of something a long time ago ... I can't swear it was by him. I don't imagine he had a lot of time to write post-1939 ... An interesting guy.

Okay, I give up ... But how 'bout today? : (6/21) 1667 The Peace of Breda ends the Second Anglo-Dutch War as the Dutch cede New Amsterdam to the English. 1791 The French royal family is arrested in Varennes. 1862 Union and Confederate forces skirmish at the Chickahominy Creek. 1863 In the second day of fighting, Confederate troops fail to dislodge a Union force at the Battle of LaFourche Crossing. 1887 Britain celebrates the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria. 1900 General Douglas MacArthur offers amnesty to Filipinos rebelling against American rule. 1908 Mulai Hafid again proclaims himself the true sultan of Morocco. 1911 Porforio Diaz, the ex-president of Mexico, exiles himself to Paris. 1915 Germany uses poison gas for the first time in warfare in the Argonne Forest. 1919 Germans scuttle their own fleet at Scapa Flow, Scotland. 1939 Baseball legend Lou Gehrig is forced to quit baseball because of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis--a disease which wastes muscles. 1942 German General Erwin Rommel captures the port city of Tobruk in North Africa. 1945 Japanese forces on Okinawa surrender to American troops. 1948 Dr. Peter Goldmark demonstrates his "long-playing" record. 1958 A federal judge allows Little Rock, Arkansas to delay school integration. 1963 France announces it will withdraw from the NATO fleet in the North Atlantic. 1964 Three civil rights workers disappear in Meridian, Mississippi. 1982 John Hinckley Jr. is found not guilty by reason of insanity for attempting to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. 1995 The U.S. Senate votes against the nomination of Dr. Henry W. Foster for Surgeon General. It all makes sense when you put it in perspective ... :wink

In my opinion, the whole idea of light, mobile tree-hunting is ruined by dependence on climbing sticks ... until they start making them of graphite or unobtainium ... Use some freaking climbing spikes like back in the day---Gosh!--- or prep trees ahead of time to accept a peg of some type... Alternatively, hunters could set their alarms for 1:30 or 2 in the morning for a local jaunt ...
